The student will acquire knowledge on training others, how to safely use handguns/revolvers, course presentation, communication skills, and much more. The goal of the NRA Pistol Instructor Course is to develop certified instructors who possess the knowledge, skills, and attitude necessary to safely and effectively teach the fundamentals of pistol shooting, firearm safety, and responsible gun ownership in accordance with NRA standards.
The NRA is recognized nationally as the gold standard for safe firearm training, developing millions of safe, ethical, responsible shooters and instructors.
Upon course completion, students will become certified NRA Pistol Instructors. We also offer a variety of additional NRA Instructor Courses to help you expand your training and credentials, including:
- Concealed Carry Workshop (CCW)
- Personal Protection Inside the home
- Personal Protection Outside the home
- Rifle
- Shotgun
- Chief Range Safety Officer
Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) DOES recognize the NRA Pistol Instructor Course as one of their prerequisites to become a License To Carry and Security Guard instructor in Texas.
NRA Membership is NOT required to become a NRA Instructor. However, being an NRA member does expedite the process of becoming an Instructor.

NRA Pistol Instructor Course Schedule
Our NRA Pistol Instructor Course is a two day course and covers all the prerequisites to certify you as an instructor. If you already completed some of the prerequisites, you may not need to attend both days.
Day 1- NRA Basic Pistol Student Course.
If you have already completed the NRA Basic Pistol Student Course, you must provide a valid certificate as proof of completion. Failure to provide proof will require you to attend and successfully complete this course.
Basic Instructor Training (BIT)
Basic Instructor Training (BIT) is included with this course. Immediately following the NRA Basic Pistol portion, we will continue with BIT. If you have completed BIT within the past two years, you are not required to attend this portion of the course; however, you must provide a valid BIT certificate or card as proof of completion. Failure to provide proper documentation will require you to attend the BIT session.
Day 2- NRA Pistol Instructor Course.
Students are required to successfully complete, and pass all course requirements (Range & classroom) as they are mandatory to receive certification.
